Setting:
The setting for the Vampire Chronicles is the world we know it, except with vampires. Louis' story starts outside New Orleans in the 18th century. He's a plantation owner who becomes a vampire through the vampire Lestat. The two remain in the New Orleans area for some hundred years, also turning a young girl named Claudia into a vampire, and they live in something like a family unit. Eventually the decades and then centuries pass and they adapt with the times. So far as the world setting goes it appears exactly like in real life. We do find out that there are a few rare humans that chronicle and keep track of vampire movement and some of them are even friends with vampires, but otherwise it is the same. There are a few instances where the vampires make themselves known but it's always taken satirically by humans (for example, the theatre vampire in Paris, and Lestat's rock 'n' roll career).
Personality:
Louis describes his vampire-self as having grown a large detachment from human emotion, and he describes this as a trait that all vampires have. However, this isn't really accurate. Throughtout the novel he shows great sensitivity, empathy, regret, and also strong bonds of love and attachment. From beginning to end Louis is defined by regret, from the death of his brother which he blamed himself for to the end in what he recounts as having happened to his creator, Lestat. Louis retains so much of his mortal concept of regret and sensitivity that it sets him apart from the other vampires we meet.
He calls himself a monster, and he understands that his existence is that of a monster, preying on innocent people nightly and killing, ruining lives, and hurting innocent people. Louis hates what he is, and yet he has accepted it and accepted what he must do to live. From the beginning of the novel, even before he becomes a vampire, he struggles with good and evil and the nature of God. This is exacerbated when he is a vampire, and he becomes frustrated with Lestat for not being able to (or unwilling to) discuss and learn about the nature of these questions and answers with him. Louis repeatedly states what a let down Lestat is in this regard. He seeks someone with an inquisitive attitude like himself, someone sensitive and interested in truth, in their nature, in the biggest questions in life about who they are and why they are here.
But no other vampire can know these answers any more than Louis can (at this point in the series) and he is therefore almost continually let down by all other vampires. For a long time Claudia proves to be a good companion for him, and eventually Armand who Louis believes has many of these answers for him. However, even in these close relationships to other vampires it is always Louis' hold on to the values of mortality that also sets him apart from them and ultimately gets in the way of such relationships.
On a more day-to-day basis, Louis could be described as a keen businessman, an introvert, an intellectual, and someone who values both feeling and thinking when making decisions. He uses logic and reason when faced with situations but his own moral compass is never ignored. If Louis feels strongly enough about something, he will usually follow that emotion even if that choice defies logic. Examples of this can be seen throughout Interview with the Vampire, such as when he killed Claudia, when he chose to leave Lestat but did not want to kill him as Claudia did, and when he chose to go with Armand after Claudia's death.
Appearance:
I will be using Brad Pitt from the movie version of Interview with the Vampire as my PB.
Abilities:
Immortality (rapid healing, healing even from grievous wounds), superhuman strength, speed, hearing, sight, agility.
Inventory:
The suit he was wearing, a wallet (containing several IDs, credit cards, cash, and a few photographs), and an antique pocket watch.
Suitability:
Louis is very old and has been through a lot in his long lifetime, he is suitable for facing further hardships and trying situations. He has been through and seen a lot including the shaping of the U.S., many wars, and his long life and experience could be helpful. While he is a solitary figure, he would definitely help others as he felt more safe in the community, and would be active in plot events.
Soul Gem:
His soul gem will be a dark blue gem set in a silver banded ring.

Third Person (Prose):
Sprawling canals, unobtrusive natives, modest houses with a focus on comfort and unassuming leisure -- Louis felt at home in the Water district. The heavy smell of water and sea, and the products thereof, were the forefront of his attraction and the hues of blues and greens the backdrop that solidified his immediate favor for this area. It was night, of course, and Louis was masochistically enjoying the gnawing hunger that was threatening him with weakness. It was back to rats for him, and he had a small smile at the thought of, what would Lestat think?
But he didn't know this city yet, he didn't know how sustainable the life was here, he didn't know if these 'kedan' were even full of the precious blood he needed to survive. In two-hundred and fifty years, Louis felt as if he had seen most of what the small world of Earth had to offer and this was, while disconcerting at first, strangely refreshing. Night after night he walked the various districts taking in all that he could of the sights and sounds of this surreal new city. Always however, he ended up back in the Water district. It had been rodents and birds for the few weeks he had walked these streets.
His hunger was constant, as was the pain that came with it, and the unrest. He needed to feed but he dare not, at least not yet. Every time a particularly interesting native crossed his path, Louis was one step closer to finding out what their life would feel like draining from them and into himself -- how ironic would it be if their blood was toxic, or if they had no blood at all for him to drink upon? Such thoughts helped ease the pain some, at least, but he knew that he would not last much longer.
This was evidenced by him actually bumping into someone he was so preoccupied with such thoughts. Louis turned immediately to see if it was another Foreigner or a native, with an apology already on his lips. "Forgive me my thoughtlessness."

[It is night, the very earliest of hours in the new day, and Louis is sitting in a dully lit room. The color of the light is a dull blue, and his face is mostly in shadow. The darkness outside and the blue-teal light give his white skin -- what can be seen of it -- a very unhealthy hue. However, his voice is soft and curious in tone, and welcoming in its calmness]
One of my most favorite of memories of my home were the crawfish. Platters full of bright crawfish, freshly caught, steaming and soon to be bathed in seasoned, clarified butter.
[Being in the Water district has brought these distant memories back and they make him smile slightly as he thinks on it. He couldn't now remember what crawfish tasted like but he remembered that he had enjoyed it.]
Do they have here what any of you recall fondly from your own homes? More surprising to me is not what all is different here, but how much is so similar, to what I once knew.
